Don't take a chance and go in November - it's the rainy season.

Jost Van Dyke BVI

JOST VAN DYKE: Is a small island in the British Virgin Islands and host to some really unique accommodations. For just $20 a night you can camp right on the beach with showers and rustic toilets behind you. There are many villas from simple to luxurious available on this small crime-free island with only 150 residents!  Ivan is the “caretaker” and jovially welcomes you to his camps and bar…

The Stress Free Bar is a “help yourself” bar where you make your own drinks and leave the money in the jar. There is also a bbq grill so you can make your own food. If that is too rustic just hike 1 minute over the mountain to the next beach where you will be served delicious food at the Soggy Dollar…. So named as the only way to the restaurant is by boat and the water is so shallow you have to swim in… bringing your “soggy dollars”.

I fell in love with Jost Van Dyke and will definitely visit Ivan again, either to stay in one of his shacks (rustic, but a step above a tent) – just $40 a night… The price is right for the right person! It is definitely in the middle of nowhere but truly paradise!

THE SOGGY DOLLAR JOST VAN DYKE: A small bar which was the first in the world to discover the “painkiller” a tropical drink made of rum and a variety of secret ingredients. We ate the conch fritters and Chicken Tonte which was a curried chicken and chick peas in a folded crust a mix between pita bread and philo dough. It was excellent.

Getting there:  You can take one of the ferries from St. Thomas, ST. John or Tortola or hire a charter boat which will also give you the opportunity to take a tour of the nearby islands.
